Chapter 7 Advantages:

Many who file for bankruptcy choose Chapter 7 because it is effective, relatively fast, it wipes out your debt and its relatively easy to file.

A filed chapter 7 petition automatically stops most, but not all, collection actions against the debtor or the debtor's property but the the stay may remain effective for a short time in some situations.

As long as the stay is in effect, creditors generally may not initiate or continue lawsuits, wage garnishments, or even telephone calls demanding payments.

Typically, the following debts will not be discharged: taxes; support for a spouse or children; Debts resulting from willful and/or malicious misconduct of the debtor; liability for injury or death from DUI; debts from a prior bankruptcy; student loans; as well as criminal fines and penalties.
